Mothering 101

A Crash Course for Young Pregnant Women

Mothering 101 is a free eight-week pregnancy education and peer support program for pregnant women under 25.

The program currently runs 3-4 times per year in various locations across Melbourne (Sunshine, Flemington, Epping).

The course is delivered by a qualified birth attendant and co-facilitated by a young mum mentor. Additional support is also provided by a social worker, with guest presentations by a qualified midwife.

Come along to meet other young mums, ask questions and learn about:

  • Pregnancy care
  • Preparing for labour and birth
  • Life with a newborn
  • Becoming a mum
  • Taking care of yourself

To find out more about Mothering 101, discuss referral options or request a session delivered in your area, please call Birth for HumanKIND Programs Manager, Jen Branscombe, on 0423 421 272.

Young Mums Booklet Front CoverWe are so proud to share this incredible resource by Carly Lord, the first young woman that our Founder Mei Lai Swan supported through her pregnancy and birth.

“When I found out I was pregnant, it was like my entire world had been turned upside down. I was 19 and I felt inadequately prepared to enter the world of responsibility and commitment that is parenthood. Hearing from other young mums throughout my pregnancy and about life with a newborn was invaluable for me and gave me the reassurance and validation I needed. That is why I am so passionate about supporting other young mums, because I know how much of a difference it can make when you don’t feel alone.” – Carly Lord

With stories, photos and input from other young mums, Carly developed this resource to accompany Birth for HumanKIND’s Mothering 101 program: a Crash Course for Young Pregnant Women.

Written by young mums for young mums, this resource is filled with information on everything from labour to breastfeeding and from understanding the health system to the all important fourth trimester. And now it is available for free download!

If you would like to make a donation to help us cover the cost of printing the booklet for young mums in our education program, you can do so here.
