Chief Executive Officer

The Role

We are seeking a strong, experienced leader with expertise in fundraising and advocacy within the community services sector, and who has a passion for maternal and/or women’s health outcomes. With a focus on sustainability, the CEO is accountable to the Birth for Humankind Board of Directors, and has ultimate responsibility for execution of the strategic plan, operational plans and the day-to-day running of the organisation. Our ideal candidate is a passionate, engaged executive with a collaborative leadership style, who can manage the strategic and the operational, and can lead an expert team of five into the next phase of the organisation as we move towards sustainability. Experience in all aspects of leading a successful organisation is a must, including fundraising and diversification of funding streams, business development, networking and partnerships experience.


Skills and experience

  • A proven track record in leading and developing an NFP organisation, including change management and building positive work cultures (experience working with a volunteer base desirable);
  • Proven track record leading fundraising and business development for an organisation, including driving: grants, partnerships including government, and diversification of funding streams;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the role of doula, maternal and/or women’s health and maternal health system within Australia, and a desire to advocate for better health outcomes for women experiencing disadvantage at both an individual and population-based level;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of working with diverse communities;
  • Excellent presentation, communication and advocacy skills;
  • Proven track record in growing services, teams and a diverse funding base;
  • Proven track record in engaging and building diverse stakeholder relationships (strong existing networks in the health and community service sector desirable);
  • Qualifications in a relevant higher degree, including qualifications and/or experience in business development and/or fundraising.

  • Comfortable working in an informal, flexible workplace;
  • Experience reporting to, and working with, a hands-on Board.
